Life After Tyee...

Most of us seeking to gather here started out from a web site known as Tyee, where we all met, debated and discovered our radical left to simple "progressive" social and political commonalities . It's actually been a few years across which we have been discovering each other and our shared interests in the future of the Canadian nation, against the threat of deep integration into the coming North Amerikan Union, for those things which need to be done to secure a respect for middle to small power nations, such as our own, our independence and desire to stand separate and apart from the US Empire and its global ambitions, for progressive environmental policy in the face of the gathering collapse of the worlds natural systems, for a more meaningful "democracy" than that provided by a late corporate capitalism, and finally for, out of all this, a simple and meaningful peace between all peoples and nations.

To which we come from many differing development directions, with subtle and not so subtle differences in attitudes and political perspectives, and yet, again, with that certain common thread of agreement, which stands against the Neoconsevative dominant direction of development, starting out from the US Empire, and spreading north like a malignancy of recent years into our own, hereto more socially and politically progressive Canada.

That is fundamentally the foundation and starting point from which this Blog site establishes itself and seeks to exert an influence, within Canada and outward to the world. We are and welcome Anglo-Canadians, Quebecois and the Indigenous peoples of our country, and all recent and established different immigrant communities into our shared country. Likewise we welcome similiar like-minded people of the world.

We are in search of our commonality, our individual nationhoods, within a single country and a sustaining natural environment, and against those outside and internal continental economic and political forces that threaten all of us.

Which is the way I see it anyway. We don't mix our messages here. We speak frankly to each other and our visitors. We are tolerant, but we are not given to being treated as fools and objects of abuse by anyone so tempted.

I forgot to mention that it would be a good idea to join the "Vast Left Wing Conspiracy" blog feeder, which would put your blog in contact with about 100 other progressive blogs.. See

Hey, Coyote, the gate to this new garden swings open much more easily. Mind if I swing back and forth a few times ... and then ...

This morning, I received an e.mail from a friend who, in her salad days, spent 17 years as Executive Assistant to an Ontario Cabinet Minister in the Bill Davis government. That is to say: politically astute (she's now NDP), skilled, and socially conscientious. Today's message tells of her efforts to get a mentally ill person into care... in Nanaimo ... and, with all her skills, failing to traverse the obstacles ... the man is starving, is worse, can't begin to cope without help from somewhere ... so?

I'll send the letter to Jerry, hoping that it brings out some good ideas ... OK?

I have just changed "settings" so that I do not have to approve every comment before it being posted. I did not quite yet understand the implication of setting up "moderate comments".

This way, anyone is free to comment and, if necessary, I can delete the total wingnut assholes later. :-)

Sure, take on more rather than less work.

Okay, it's a trial run.

I'll also maybe try setting up this comment form as a separate popup, which might create a bigger space for longer and larger comments.

If we don't like it, I can change it back.

One thing I forgot to mention, unprotected your blog will attract parasites that flood the comments section with spam. There is a way of avoiding this. Go to your Blogger Dashboard, then go to "change settings" then to "comments" then go down to "show word verification" click 'yes" for this. Spam comes in automatically and thus is stopped by this little extra step that you have to do when you write a comment.

I agree.. quite a nice mix this is ...between the articles on The People's Voice..and the meeting place of Free Columbians.

A good suggestion for stopping the spam on the comments section as well, anarcho.

Well done, Coyote...thanks. :-)

saw your challenge to Beers re Glavin - seems to me if anything will get a rise out of him that should.

Still can't seem to get nana interested - she more or less rejected a direct overture on a tyee thread tonight - I give up.

still can't understand what's with Right to Bear - i'm now getting email from him but he still doesn't appear a member at Free Columbians - any ideas?

I like you introductory essay here a lot.

I would dearly love to get a "rise" out of Beers. You all have to know that. :-)

But I don't think so. I think he really thinks that little of us. We are that far beneath him. Mere fodder for his blogosphere dreams. He is in pursuit of advertising revenue and the dollars which come with that , and for all his pretentious "professional journalism" protestations, and whether folks actually read his site or that it serves a useful social purpose or not, is beside the point.

Which, of course, makes me wonder if whether or not the early rumours were true or mere urban myth, that his early financing was BC Federation of Labour dependant. I mean, I cannot believe that even they, though who knows, approve of his current apolitical, entertainment and fashion preoccupations.

But then, even as a pro-trade unionist, if disillusioned, who the fuck knows how far the rot has really gone?

If Beers is the measure however, pretty goddamn far, it would seem.

Hey Bear, welcome! Hope you manage to wiggle through the door at Free Columbians too.

Speaking of Tyee, I see, or at least suspect that Beers is gradually getting the message that some people aren't exactly impressed with the 'tack' he's been taking of late. Not that it will likely make any difference - but at least it indicates that, elbowed in the ribs often enough, the fellow finally wakes up!

I'm sure you'll have noticed the new wrinkle, allegedly the 'breaking story' of the day.

Virtually everything he mentions had already been covered in the comments and probably covered better.

Too bad about the name change. Might be an idea to post a note on Free Columbians - which I'll do as soon as I leave here.

cheers brother Coyote
